Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about chess classes, coaching and tournaments at the Academy in Visakhapatnam.

Where is Great Move Chess Academy based?

The Academy is at 2nd Floor, Roral Residency, 10-128/1, Near Adams Hospital, Srinivasa Nagar, Madhurawada, Pothinamallayyapalem, Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh 530041. We teach in person there — in the Madhurawada area of Vizag — and also run live online sessions, so students outside Visakhapatnam can train with us too.

Is the Academy really open 24 hours?

Yes — the Academy is listed as open 24 hours, seven days a week, because we also coach students in other time zones. That describes when you can reach us; it does not mean classes run continuously. We don't publish fixed batch timings on the site, so contact us and our team will confirm the schedule for the programme you're interested in.

Do you teach chess to children?

Yes. Our beginner classes are for children and adults starting from zero, and our intermediate and advanced programmes take young players through to rated competition. Students are grouped by playing level rather than by age.

Do I need to know how to play chess before joining?

No. The Beginner Chess programme starts from zero — piece movement, board setup, notation, basic checkmates and opening principles. It is built for students who have never played a game.

How do you decide which programme a student joins?

Every new student plays a short assessment so we can see how they actually think, not just what they know. They then join the programme that matches their real level, regardless of age or how long they have been playing.

Do you offer online chess classes?

Yes. Online coaching runs as live one-on-one or small-group sessions with the same structure as in-person training, using a digital board with game review. In-person classes run at the Academy with board-side feedback and regular practice games.

Is one-on-one coaching available?

Yes. Most students train in small batches, but players who want faster, more specific progress — or who are preparing for a particular event — can work one-on-one with a coach instead.

Do students play in tournaments?

Yes. Tournament preparation is part of the coaching rather than a separate activity. When a student is ready we prepare them for rated play, enter them into district and state-level events, and review every game afterwards.

Is registering for a tournament the same as enrolling in coaching?

No. Registering for a tournament enters you in that single event only and does not enrol you at the Academy. Joining as a regular coaching student is a separate process — get in touch and we will recommend the right starting point.

How long has the Academy been running?

Great Move Chess Academy was founded in 2015 in Visakhapatnam and has coached players of every level since then, in person and online.

How do I get in touch?

Call or message the Academy on +91 80746 13510 — WhatsApp works on the same number — or email greatmovechessacademy@gmail.com. Tell us about the player and what you are looking for, and our team will get back to you.
